My name is Matthew and I have started my longarm quilting and embroidery services out of my house in Plano, TX. I currently specialize in edge to edge quilting motifs and digitizing embroidery designs. I also do commission quilts, t-shirt quilts, and ad-hoc projects around the house.
Artist Statement
Working with modern fabrics and threads, I integrate traditional quilt piecing techniques for blocks to create a colorful, vibrant, and one-of-a-kind piece that excites the viewer and draw them in for a closer look.
Each piece I create begins with an exploration of modern quilt patterns, fabrics I own in my collection, and rough sketches of the imagery I want to work with. Creating sample blocks from scrap fabric gives me the inspiration I need to explore possible combinations of the images/colors before I start cutting into my own stash. My sample blocks allow me to adjust the placement of colors/motifs and the actual construction of the quilt top begins.
I work with major quilt fabric artist in my stash that I have curated over the years that include Tula Pink, Kaffe Fasset, Giucy Guice, Allison Glass, Zen Chic, Christa Watson, and Tim Holtz to name a few of the many I own. Their unique eye and vision create some of the best possible designs that allow me to create something that vibrates with color.
To round out all of the hard work to piece with precision, I long arm my quilt tops with unique and interesting motifs from Urban Elementz, Longarm League, Karlee Porter, and Prostitcher with Aurifil, Madeira, or Omni thread. I’m obsessed with how the right motif can make the patchwork piecing really shine and work in harmony to create a stunning masterpiece.
My current works-in-progress will vary at any given time, but I like to work on a project that will hone my skills in one area, but have another one that honors the skills that I have just learned and ones that I learned as foundations in quilting.
